How to make a Happy move with your kids

Although moving isn't a vacation, driving with the kids can still create a lifetime of happy memories!
Even if you're dealing with the stress of moving, and changing lives, a fun, family road trip can go a longway to ease the strain.

The moving boxes are packed tight in the moving van and everyone has said good bye to their friends and old house. Now the car trip is on the way. Time spent in the car with the whole family can be as memorable as all the places you'll visit. When the kids are happy you'll be able to make the most of this special time. Plan ahead so the kids don't get bored and start to complain and fight.

Give each child a disposable camera at the beginning of the trip. Tell them to take pictures of the
interesting things they see along the way. Fill a gallon-size storage bag with pencils, paper,
markers and crayons. Have a separate bag for each child to minimize fights. Encourage older children to
keep a travel journal. Have these items handy, or in the personal moving boxes.

Stock a cooler full of healthy snacks and drinks. Keep the cooler close by so you can hand out goodies when the kids start getting cranky. Sing silly songs together. Use a familiar tune and have each family member make up words. See who can create the funniest lyrics.

Play travel games with your kids. Play old favorites like "I spy," or make up your own. Let each child take a turn picking the game. Buy postcards along the way for your kids to fill out and mail to their friends and family back home. Keep a small bag full of pens and stamps in your glove compartment so you'll be ready to drop the postcards in a mailbox along the way.

Let each kid choose an attraction or restaurant where you will stop. Give them a few options to choose from and make sure they have plenty of time to consider where they want to stop.
