Pack it all up, put it in storage
and
travel for a year after your move
So you've sold your house! Who says you have to move into a new one right away. So long as you buy a new property in the next couple of years you won't incur a capital gains tax. Now's the time to take the
adventure of your life. Want to Safari to Africa? Want to go walkabout down under in Australia? How about an extended tour of these wonderful United States of America?
First, follow all of the rules to getting ready for a move. But instead of hiring movers to haul your stuff
to a new house, hire a smaller local company to move it into a storage unit, or have your big movers
deliver to a storage unit in your new hometown. Prepay the storage unit for six months to a year,
however long you plan your great adventure traveling the world.
If you use good, sturdy moving boxes, you should have no worries or concerns about the safety of your times. A solid moving box, h-strapped with packing tape, and clearly labeled will keep your belongings safe for a good long time. Storage Units are behind locked and monitored gates, so your items will be perfectly safe. Purchase your lock from the storage company, as they will carry the best kind to lock your unit.
Once you've moved it, you're off on an adventure. But wait, where are you going to go? While you are organizing your move in your Moving Book, and you decide to use this time between homes to
travel, set up a section and research the areas you want to travel to. Starting four weeks out,
(or longer) if necessary, get your tickets, your agenda and itinerary in order.
Want to Cruise up the Alaskan coastline to see grizzly bears, soaring eagles and ice floes? Get your tickets in order for this once in a lifetime experience. Ever thought about a tour of European castles? You can match all the names and places in your Western History books and explore cities that were old before the U.S.A. was even founded.
Sure, moving can be stressful, so you need a vacation to help ease the stress. And yes, you will have to set up a new household on returning from your extended adventure vacation. But how many times in your life will you be able to pack it all up and go away for up to a year? Do it before you retire. See the world. See your own backyard.
